Alpha is used to refer to the transparency element in files. An Alpha channel of an image or footage represents the degree of opacity of an image/video footage. This allows such files to be saved with transparent backgrounds or elements. For example .png files or instagram animated stickers. The terms Alpha layer and Alpha file are also used to describe the exported transparency element on its own, which can then be applied as a stencil to another image or footage file.
